Two Great Nonprofits, Two Great Missions
Hello dear Petaluma River lovers! As the annual Rivertown Revival event approaches—an awesome historic fundraiser organized by Friends of the Petaluma River—there has been increasing confusion between them and the Petaluma River Park Foundation. We are two separate nonprofits with complementary but different missions and programs.
The Petaluma River Park Foundation was founded in 2019 with the sole purpose of purchasing land to transform into a park that connects people, art, and nature. We are actively fundraising for and designing the future Petaluma River Park, which will be complete in 2029. The River Park Foundation also operates and manages the current River Park, which is open to the public daily, from dawn to dusk. The River Park is located on the McNear Peninsula, next to Steamer Landing Park (a City-owned park).
Friends of the Petaluma River was founded in 2005 and is focused on celebrating the Petaluma River through education and stewardship. They have their headquarters at the city-owned Steamer Landing Park (next to the Petaluma River Park) and are well known for their summer camps, watershed classroom program, and river clean up days. Friends hosts the annual fundraiser, Rivertown Revival, each July.
What an incredible community to have two awesome nonprofits supporting access and education to our awesome river. Since we’ve heard that people have been getting us mixed up, hopefully this helps to clarify!
